Burnley 1-1 Manchester United - Player Ratings

An exciting game between two teams fighting at different ends of the table ended with them splitting the points, but how the did the match play out and who where the standout players?

(All players start with a base rating of 6 for reference)

Burnley Ratings:

Nick Pope - 7

Pope had a busy first half as United dominated for the most part and pulled off several good saves but had no chance for keeping out Pogba's opening goal. He also made a great save against Cavani as he lept from near to far post saving the ball with his knee to deny the visitors getting a second goal. He had a much quieter second half but pulled off 1 or 2 good late saves to keep the game level and secure a big point for the hosts.

Ben Mee - 6.8

Was under a lot of pressure in the first half and never got really anything going for his side and simply relied on punting the ball upfield and hoping for the best before giving it back to united and sitting deep. Second half much better in and out of possession and gave united little chances and cut out any which they did have.

James Tarkowski - 6.8

Similar to Mee in the fact that the second half showed a completely different version, made a good number of blocks and cut out chances for a solid performance.

Connor Roberts - 6.1

Very poor first half and was the side that allowed United the most chances. It seemed as if he was unable to deal with the link up play between Sancho and Shaw whether it be an under or overlap and a result gave away too many chances and as a result was targeted by united going forward. Second half he played much better and seemed a lot more comfortable when in possession than out of it.

Eric Pieters - 6.8

Similar to Roberts with a poor first half with the only positive when he created Burnley best chance with a good counter attack effort but just didn't have the pace to get past the Man United line after a 50 yard dash. Gave the ball away several times unnecessarily which lowers his rating but was definitely the most creative from the back for Burnley and had a solid game.

Ashley Westwood - 6.3

Had a very quiet game as a whole and never really made an impact aside from the occasional good pass in the second half. First half was complete missing and never really got the ball or created anything as they simply played long ball which didn't work as much as they had hoped. Improved in the second half but mediocre game.

Josh Brownhill - 6.1

Same as Westwood just seemed to go missing for most of the game. Had an extremely poor first half giving the ball away several times in the few chances where Burnley actually had possession. Played better in the second half but never really had any impact.

Maxwell Cornet - 5.9

Played out on the left hand side of the pitch and looked lost for most of the game. Whenever he had possession he proceeded to waste it or unsure of what to do and put on a poor performance. Even at the start of the second half he didn't match the pace that the rest of the Burnley players set and was the weakest going forward. Subbed at 69 minutes.

Dwight McNeil - 6.6

Alongside Roberts on the right hand side of the pitch he was also extremely poor in the first half. He didn't appear to track back as much as he should of done considering how much Roberts was struggling and whenever he did receive the ball he always seemed to choose the wrong option. Second half he improved massively, and with Cornet struggling on the opposite side he was definitely the more productive winger, although he perhaps held possession for too long or missed passes he could of done.

Jay Rodriguez - 7.1

May as well have not been playing in the first half as the only time he seemed to be on the pitch was on a counter attack which he just didn't have the pace to get to the ball first. Second half he came out a complete different player and got involved in the play a lot more and got his reward after scoring with a lovely finish after some nice link-up play with Weghorst. Subbed at 88 mins

Wout Weghorst - 7.2

Burnley's game plan in the first half seemed to be to play the ball long and high for their new target man up top and it didn't seem to go to plan as although he won as good portion of the headers, Burnley never seem to win the second ball so never got anything out of it. He looked better at the end of the first half when he started to come much deeper and play it to feet or challenge the united midfield. Second half he looked much more confident with the ball at his feet and was the focal point for everything positive Burnley did, getting a beautiful assist on his debut with a great cut back and pass. Should of got a goal with a tremendous volley but was denied by an equally good save by David De Gea.

Aaron Lennon - 6

Came on for Cornet in the 69th minute of the game. Did his job in seeing out the game but came on when Manchester United were finding a second wind and restoring more possession but regardless did solid.

Ashley Barnes - 6

Came on for Rodriguez in the 88th minute. Came on at the end of the game coming back from injury, not enough time to rate.

Manchester United Ratings

David De Gea - 6.7

Wasn't needed throughout the first half but made a great save against Weghorst in order to keep the game at 1-1, could do little to stop the first goal but solid performance.

Harry Maguire - 5.7

Solid in the first half the same as the whole united team. Second half was absolutely woeful and was at fault for Burnley's goal, getting turned far too easily by Weghorst and outpaces by Rodriguez and had a poor second half, being easily the worst player on the pitch.

Raphael Varane - 6.2

Was unfortunate to not get the opening goal and came close to scoring again at the end of the game. Looked slightly uncomfortable when Burnley became the more dominant team and seemed off the pace in the second half much like the rest of the team

Diogo Dalot - 6.8

Had a quiet game in terms of defensive duties as he was easily able to contain the poor performance from Cornet. Got forward a lot and created some good opportunities but also wasted several that could of been used better.

Luke Shaw - 6.7

Had an outstanding first half linking up well with Sancho to decimate the Burnley right hand side and got a good assist for Pogba. Second half was a bit more defensive and ended up playing Rodriguez onside for the equaliser but overall had a solid game.

Scott McTominay - 6.4

Did very well maintaining United's possession in the first half winning almost all of his duels and continued to play defensively well in the second half. Wasted far too many opportunities when going forward taking on long range shots when much better options are available. Subbed at 80 mins

Paul Pogba - 7.2

Was unplayable in the first half as he pulled the strings for United all over the pitch and getting the opening goal showing the class that he is capable of. Was quieter in the second half but still had a really good game.

Bruno Fernandes - 6.8

Seemed to track back a lot more than usual but his work rate paid off as he won the ball back numerous times for his team and was great when in possession with a good number of passes and opportunities made. Similar to Pogba his influence was quieter in the second half with Burnley having more possession.

Marcus Rashford - 6.4

Found himself in good space and tested Nick Pope a couple of times in the first half. Despite this he often chose the wrong option and didn't play the key/easy passes that could of been more profitable for his side. Subbed at 85 mins

Jadon Sancho - 6.8

One of his best performances in a United shirt as he tormented Roberts for almost all of the first half. He linked up extremely well with Shaw and created numerous chances, but like most of the united players was less involved in the second.

Edison Cavani - 5.9

Didn't have his greatest game and should really of scored (whether it counted or not) but was denied by a great save from Pope. Wasn't that involved in much of the build-up and was definitely the weak link in the United attack. Subbed at 68 mins.

Cristiano Ronaldo - 5.9

Subbed on for Cavani at 68 mins. Didn't have much of an impact as they would of hoped and missed a good chance with a header that could of sealed all 3 points.

Jesse Lingard - 6

Subbed on for McTominay at 80 mins. Looked lively but not enough time to give a rating

Anthony Elanga - 6

Subbed on for Rashford at 85 mins. Not enough time to rate.

Worst Performer - Harry Maguire

Man Of The Match - Paul Pogba
